    Play video 'I have shied away from talking about this part of my life. Mostly because, being in the public eye, unwanted opinions and false narratives from others can get exhausting and quite a few people can’t stay in their own lane when it comes to topics like dating after a separation/divorce, and other difficult life circumstances. But upon having many conversations and connecting with other moms on here that walk a similar path, I realized that I need to quit holding onto my silence, because I am doing these women a disservice of making them feel alone, when they most certainly are not. I did a Q&A in my stories recently, and a sweet single mama asked for advice when it comes to dating when you have children from a previous marriage. My answer to her was - I made it very clear with Joel at the start of our relationship that my kids would always come first no matter what. He understood that if he wanted to date me, he would also have to date my kids. I believe a man worth your time will understand that and will see it as a privilege to be a part of something bigger than himself and the two of you. But more importantly, listen to your mama heart. You can’t write a book on something like this because every family’s circumstances and dynamic is uniquely different. Our mama instincts are stronger than we think so make sure you listen to it and not those who THINK they know your situation better than you. 😉 And finally, a sappy, mushy little note to Joel… your impact on my kids’ lives extends far beyond our day-to-day routines. You have opened their hearts to the limitless possibilities of love and family. You have made it clear with them that you will never be the father they had but you’d do your best to step up and support them however they need it. You have shown them that we are not solely defined by blood ties, but by the connections we cultivate and the love we choose to share. Thank you for for loving *us.* #meganewoldsen''
